Community Service Proposal
My community service proposal for phase two of the Elder Project would be setting up a community fund that provides opportunities for lower income kids to experience new hobbies and passions. While reflecting on the theme of my Elder Project, I realized how fortunate enough I was to have the support system and opportunities that provided me the resources to explore multiple passions. I know first hand that not every kid has the same opportunities that I had, and I'm extremely grateful for all that was given to me. But I think opportunities like that should be accessible to all kids. For example. my mom always tells us that she never had the opportunity to do the things we do today, and how much she would have benefited from more knowledge and assistance in life. So I want to be able to provide opportunities for students to learn about different subjects, careers, sports, and just general knowledge that would benefit any person. I would go about this project by holding a "Jog-a thon" style event where people sign up to participate and they look for people to sponsor a specific number of laps they run. All of the funds raised from this project would be put into a community fund that would allow for the exploration of hobbies and experiences that might not always be accessible to low income families.
Service Project Plan
1. Contact the Ripon Chamber of Commerce and ask if they would support the community fund in promoting the mission of the project, and handling the finances of the community fund
2. Set up date for Jog-a-thon
3. Create publicity for event and share the proposed idea
4. Set up a collection system where students/community members can drop off their money for their sponsored laps for the Jog-a-thon
5. Execute the Jog-a-thon
6. Utilize funds to promote career building/hobby/sports events that can be used as learning experiences and resources for people who might not always have those resources
7. Hold several events using the funds to establish an organization that promotes the growth and influence of all community members
